| Mr. Klope has worked for the Department of Navy for the past 21 years. During his Navy civil service career he has worked at two Navy Bases, NAS Point Mugu, California and NAS Whidbey Island, Washington serving as Program Manager of Natural Resources, Environmental Planning, Superfund Cleanup Program, and Oil Spill Response. Mr. Klope has received numerous honors from the Department of Defense and the Secretary of navy for his work in natural resource Management. Mr. Klope is Earthworks wildlife biological specialist and is highly involved in our Biological Site Assessments, Wetland Vegetation Restoration Plans, Eagle Nest Tree Environmental Impacts Report, Wetland Determinations and Delineations, and Vegetation Restoration Plans.
Mr. Klope's current and past responsibilities with the Navy include coordinating all aspects of natural resources management on 60,000 acres in the states of Washington and Oregon to ensure environmental compliance for mission readiness. Mr. Klope also helped develop Whidbey Island Naval Air Station's Integrated Natural Resources Management Plans and the Bald Eagle Management Plan, which included programs that covered wildlife, forestry, wetlands, fisheries, agricultural out leasing, and endangered species. Mr. Klope also developed and implemented the Navy's premier Bird Aircraft Strike Hazard Safety Center as the Department of the Navy's BASH Program prototype. He organized and implemented NAS Whidbey Island's Installation Restoration Program for 52 areas of concern on 2 NPL sites and coordinated the delisting of the Navy's first NPL site, The Seaplane Base. Mr. Klope has also coordinated all research activities for 85 major projects from 43 different institutions, including projects on marine mammals, archaeology, botany, insects, terrestrial mammals, invertebrates, reptiles, amphibians, birds, as well as independent research on red foxes, feral cats, island night lizards, gray whales, harbor seal, salt-marsh birds beak, chukar, California brown pelican, and California least tern. |
